Workshop & Class Descriptions

Fiction Workshop ($5)
Mon: 7-9

During each workshop session a selection of writers will read 5-6 pages of their work aloud. Following the reading, workshop attendees will offer their thoughts and feedback on the work. The author can then utilize the feedback to enhance and improve their writing. We’ll also explore and discover voice, style, atmosphere, character development, plot, and so much more. All genres and all experience levels welcome.

Nonfiction Workshop ($5)
Tue: 7-9

During each workshop session a selection of writers will read 5-6 pages of their work aloud. Following the reading, workshop attendees will offer their thoughts and feedback on the work. The author can then utilize the feedback to enhance and improve their writing. We’ll also explore and discover voice, style, atmosphere, character development, use of dialog, and so much more. All genres and all experience levels welcome.

GLBTQ+ Workshop ($5)
Wed: 7-9

During each workshop session a selection of writers will read 5-6 pages of their work aloud. Following the reading, workshop attendees will offer their thoughts and feedback on the work. The author can then utilize the feedback to enhance and improve their writing. We’ll also explore and discover voice, style, atmosphere, character development, plot, and so much more. All genres and all experience levels welcome.

Afternoon Workshop ($5)
Wed: 1-3

During each workshop session a selection of writers will read 5-6 pages of their work aloud. Following the reading, workshop attendees will offer their thoughts and feedback on the work. The author can then utilize the feedback to enhance and improve their writing. We’ll also explore and discover voice, style, atmosphere, character development, plot, and so much more. All genres and all experience levels welcome. Open to both fiction and nonfiction.

Poetry Workshop ($5)
1st Thu: 7-9

During each workshop session a selection of writers will read a poem aloud. Following the reading, workshop attendees will offer their thoughts and feedback on the work. The author can then utilize the feedback to enhance and improve their writing. All experience levels, as well as all styles and formats welcome.

Platform Building ($10)
2nd Thu: 7-9

Lecture and discussion series on a wide range of topics (see monthly calendar) to help writers learn techniques to build their platform and following.

Author Round Table ($10)
3rd Thu: 7-9

In addition to a short lecture on a topic related to the author’s journey, the goal of these sessions is to answer your questions. Ask anything about writing and the publishing industry.

Book Club (FREE)
4th Thu: 7-9

Join us for a discussion of a book from a writer’s perspective. Monthly book selections will include books on the craft of fiction, award winning novels and nonfiction (including memoirs/biographies). See the Monthly Calendar or join the email mailing list for upcoming titles.

Prompts ($10)
Tue: 1-3; 1st Sat: 10-Noon

Writing Fiction (and nonfiction) through Prompts. Each session includes a literary device, prompt, writing, reading, and critique.

The Writing of Fiction Lecture ($20)
3rd Sat: 10-Noon

Lectures and Q&A on a wide range of fiction topics including world building, character creation, plot, point of view, pacing, etc.

The Writing of Nonfiction Lecture ($20)
3rd Sat: 2-4

Lectures and Q&A on a wide range of nonfiction topics including query letters, pitching, nonfiction book proposals, magazine writing, etc.

Expert Night ($20)
4th Sat: 7-9

Each month, an expert on a topic other than writing, will present a lecture from their expertise followed by Q&A. Why? Writers need to know about many topics to create believable characters. This will be your opportunity to talk to Nurses and Doctors and Detectives and Coroners and Pilots and…well, you get the idea.
